The isolator's equivalent horizontal stiffness is Ke = Gdin·A / te, where Gdin is the compound's dynamic shear modulus, A is the isolator area and te is the total vulcanized rubber thickness: a softer compound or a thicker rubber layer lowers Ke, lengthens the isolated period and reduces the seismic forces transmitted to the structure.
